| Based on the findings of this study, the following actions are proposed for consideration by the Government of Kenya: 1. Raise public investment in maize seed breeding and agronomic research to make it possible for improvements in smallholder crop productivity. Based on research evaluating the returns to alternative investments in agriculture, public expenditures in maize seed breeding and agronomy may constitute the single most important investment to promote broad-based productivity growth and poverty reduction in Kenya. 2. | A vizsgálatok feltárták az egyes régiók gabonatermelése közti különbsége-ket, különös tekintettel a vetésterületek, hozamok és az árbevételek alakulására. Megállapítást nyert, hogy: • A legjelentősebb búzatermelő régióink a Dél-Dunántúl és a Dél-Alföld. Mindkét régióban az összes betakarított termésmennyiség és a termésátlag is meghaladta a többi régió eredményeit a vizsgált időszakban. • A kukorica esetében is a Dél-Dunántúli Régió a meghatározó, 2004-ben 11%-kal többet takarítottak be az Észak-Alföld termelésénél és közel hétszer többet a legalacsonyabb terméseredményű Közép-Magyaroszágénál. | Maize is the major food crop grown in the coastal region of Kenya and constitutes a major component of the diet of the population in the region. However, average yields are far below the potential for the region and low production levels create serious food deficits. Over the years, new technologies have been introduced but adoption has remained low, especially for fertilizer. This paper examined current maize-farming practices and technological and socioeconomic factors that influenced adoption in the Kilifi and Kwale Districts of the Coast Province, that together account for half of maize production in the region. | Altas produtividades de milho são dependentes da interação de fatores como clima, solo e manejo. O manejo da adubação nitrogenada é um dos principais condicionantes da produtividade, pela complexa dinâmica do nitrogênio (N) nos sistemas agrícolas. É com base nessa dinâmica que se busca estimar o potencial de suprimento de N pelo solo e o seu aproveitamento pela cultura, o que possibilita definir as recomendações de adubação. | Capuchin monkeys occupy a wide range of habitats where they feed on fruits, arthropods, and vertebrates. Their large home ranges (80-900 ha) suggest that living in forest fragments may challenge their adaptability. We identified and quantified the main food items of Cebus libidinosus Spix, 1823 in forests fragments (100 ha) in southeastern Brazil. We recorded the feeding activities of two groups using scan sampling over a 13-month period. The diet was composed of fruits, crops, animal prey, seeds, plant matter and undetermined. Fruit was eaten more in the wet season than in the dry season, and maize and sugar cane consumption peaked in the early dry season.
